All you need to know about Vaping
Vaping is the recreational use of inhaling and exhaling the aerosol, also known as vapor, which is produced by an e cigarette or similar vaping device in combination with a vaping liquid referred to as e liquid, e juice or vape juice.
Vaping Devices consist of a mouthpiece, a cartridge also referred to as a vape tank for containing the e liquid & replaceable coil, a battery, and a heating component for the device that is powered by the battery also referred to as a vape mod. When the device is used, the battery heats up the heating component, which turns the e liquid into a vapor that is inhaled into the lungs and then exhaled.
E Liquid usually contains propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, food grade flavouring, in nicotine variants - freebase nicotine or nicotine salts. These products are available in many different flavours from fruity to tobacco as well as multiple nicotine strengths from 0mg to 18mg using freebase nicotine and up to 50mg using nicotine salts.
There are 4 main components:
The Tank holds the eliquid and the replaceable coil. The mouthpiece on the top is where you draw from. Most if not all tanks have a 510 thread on the bottom which means they can be used across many different Mods.
The coil heats the eliquid to create the vapor. It is screwed into the tank and draws the e liquid in through the small holes on the side of the coil. A coil is based on resistance ranging from 0.2Ω - 1.8Ω (ohms)
The Mod is what provides the power to the coil to create heat to vaporize the eliquid. There are 3 main ways a mods power output is measured; Watts, Volts, and Temperature. On advanced devices these can be manually changed.
E-Liquid, also known as e juice, is what your vaping device heats to create vapor. Its made of propylene glycol (PG), vegetable glycerin (VG), flavoring, & sometimes nicotine. Learn more about nicotine strength further in the guide.
Different Vaping Styles call for different set ups!
There are a few sub categories of vaping that can be a little confusing when you are first starting out & trying to work out what's the right piece of kit for you; so we are going to simplify this and give you a brief summary of each so you can quickly determine which direction you should be heading in.
Mouth To Lung | MTL
Mouth to Lung devices closely simulate the feeling of smoking a real (analogue) cigarette. These devices offer a restrictive airflow to give you the same tight draw you would experience with a cigarette and are suitable for low to high strength nicotine e liquid. The new generation Pod Systems which are easy to use and very similar to a cigarette are in this category, so overall this device type is better suited towards current or ex smokers.
- Cheaper entry price for hardware.
- Suitable with high nicotine strength e liquid inc Nicotine Salts.
- Your e liquid will last longer.
- Longer lasting battery life.
- Easy to use Pod Sytems are in this category.
- Less advanced hardware options.
- Less advanced settings.

Direct To Lung | DTL
Direct to Lung devices simulate the sensation of big draws from shisha; you will inhale the vapor directly into your lungs. To achieve this - DTL devices have a wide and open air flow and output a lot more power to heat the e liquid, which in return creates more vapour. These devices are not suitable for high nicotine strengths as they can feel very harsh on the throat due to the nature of the amount of vapor you are inhaling.
- Produces large vape clouds.
- More advanced settings & options.
- Replaceable battery cells.
- Not suitable with high nicotine strength e liquid inc Nicotine Salts.
- Will chew through battery life faster.
- Higher entry price for hardware.
- You will use e liquid faster.

What Nicotine Strength do i get?
Eliquid is produced in many flavours; fruit, desert tobacco & plenty more. Flavour wise this is subjective to your preferred taste. So if you are unsure we recommend experimenting to find what works for you. You can use any nicotine strength in any device, but there are some pointers to help you decide where to start... (see below)
Ex Smokers | Mouth To Lung
Mouth to Lung users who are coming off cigarettes would use either 18mg (High) for heavy smokers or 12mg (Medium) for regular smokers (12mg being the most popular with Mouth to Lung users)
Sub Ohm | Direct To Lung
Direct to Lung users would vape lower nicotine strengths. 3mg (Low) would be the most popular and max would be 6mg of nicotine. High nicotine strengths in a direct to lung device can be harsh on the throat.
